Carbon Footprint Analysis and Low-Carbon Logistics
Driving Sustainable Freight Movement Through Data-Driven Decarbonization
The Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) at ICD Sawariya Shakti is designed to support integrated and sustainable logistics operations. Strategically situated along the DFCCIL corridor, the MMLP aims to optimize freight movement, improve logistics efficiency, and reduce dependence on higher-emission transport modes.
As part of the carbon footprint assessment, PlanetWise CMS was used to quantify transportation-related GHG emissions and model potential decarbonization scenarios, including changes in fuel mix and modal share. This digital approach enabled a data-driven assessment of the emissions profile and helped evaluate practical pathways towards lower-carbon freight movement.
By enabling greater integration of road and rail freight, the project represents an important step towards decarbonizing India's logistics sector while ensuring the efficient movement of goods.
Quantifying the Carbon Footprint of Logistics Operations
A comprehensive carbon footprint analysis was undertaken to assess GHG emissions associated with transportation activities at MMLP ICD Sawariya Shakti.
The assessment focused on understanding the emissions profile of freight movement across road and rail, identifying the major emission drivers and evaluating opportunities to transition towards lower-carbon transportation.
- Quantify GHG emissions from transportation activities
- Identify key emission contributors based on fuel type, vehicle type, and transport mode
- Evaluate alternative fuel adoption scenarios and opportunities to reduce diesel dependence
- Develop data-driven recommendations for sustainable transportation practices
- Support alignment with national and international climate goals and GHG Protocol guidelines
Simulating Fuel Mix and Modal Shift with PlanetWise CMS
PlanetWise CMS enabled the assessment team to model and simulate different decarbonization scenarios for the logistics park.
The platform was used to evaluate the potential impact of changes in fuel mix and modal share, providing insights into how greater adoption of alternative fuels and increased utilization of rail could influence the overall carbon footprint.
This scenario-based approach allows decision-makers to move beyond simply measuring current emissions and assess how operational changes could translate into measurable emissions reductions.
From Carbon Measurement to Low-Carbon Logistics
The analysis provides a structured foundation for identifying practical pathways to reduce transportation-related emissions at MMLP ICD Sawariya Shakti.
Enabling the Transition to Sustainable Logistics
The MMLP ICD Sawariya Shakti assessment demonstrates how digital carbon accounting and scenario modelling can support the decarbonization of India's logistics infrastructure.
Through PlanetWise CMS, transportation data can be transformed into actionable insights, enabling stakeholders to evaluate alternative pathways, understand their emissions impact, and develop practical strategies for a more efficient, resilient, and low-carbon logistics ecosystem.
